Question about rights to anime
#1
I'm going to use DBZ as an example here as it's what i'm curious about. I see japanese versions for sale at various stores but no english. The only english set (as far as I can tell) that exists is a 1-58 ep eng dub ONLY.

Does Funimation own the rights to the japanese version of dbz as well as the english? Can they make sites take down the 1-58 and the japanese or only the english ones?

Just find it strange that there are no R1 rips of dbz floating around but there are japanese versions because dbz is very popular and could make a ton of money.

I really want hk region 1 rips but am settling for the japanese version. Replacing my vhs tapes heheh. Spent enough money on those. Own about half the show so I don't really wanna spend a grand on the dvds lol.

They do own the rights to both dub and sub obviously but apart from that I dont get what you mean?

Seems I didn't do my research well enough. Anyways I havn't seen any of those sets for sale at any stores. Question still stands though, can Funimation ask sites to take off Japenese versions of dragonball?

Oh yes aslong as it's being sold in the USA as they own all rights to DBZ so any form Japanese or not still belongs to them... If it was being sold in China they can't I dont think unless they used the R1s as a source...

Yah, that's correct. Did you go to FOX or hannity.com for this research?

They already asked JJ to remove them.
