the problem with college is a lot of people come out of college but without the skills necessary to market themselves. I know many people in my classes right now that have no idea how to do interviews, set up a portfolio, write memos and resumes, and so on. Having a degree is definitely a must but employers want more than just a 3.5gpa. So being able to ahve those skills once you graduate will get you ahead and you'll have a better chance at the jobs.

It also depends on your major...if you majored in History, Bio, Acct, Edu, etc. Because especially in the US, jobs are something epople need to fight for and not guaranteed after college. I'm only a junior and my major is Edu which is ncie sicne, even though it does not pay like 50,000 a year, there are always some sort of jobs available.

But even if you major in something like Art or History...it also helps for getting a job since employers of daily jobs like janitors and managers of fast food joints look for people with college education first.

Um...and connections are a must have. People like to think they don't but they do. I've had quite a few jobs and I got them all through connections, no interviewing whatsoever. And I wasn't even the best person qualified. so right now I'm trying to get into diff school systems and get to know the high up people along with teachers since they can offer suggestions about who to hire sometimes.

Finally, since this is way too long ^-^;, college is frickin way too exspensive. I've been lucky to live with my relatives for free the first 2 years and now I'm going to move into the dorm so I can have some party-ness and easier access to stuff on campus. But damn, it costs more to live in the dorm than tuition alone. And my parents make clsoe to nothing and so I get a lot of financial aide luckily...so I can't imagine how anyone with high interest loans does it...

I have a loan I don't pay interest on till 6 months after I graduate and the other loans I've seen are ridiculous. you may as well use a credit card ><

I would have to say connections is a major part of the game, and it makes the transition easier from the "college world" to the "real world". But unfortunatly alot of times it's easier said than done. And I think people rely to much on job placement offices that some colleges provide now a days.

I think that colleges deceive numerous peope when they sign up. For instance, my cousin just got her bachlors for Psycology. She will never get a job in that field, because she has a criminal record. She asked her college if her past records would make a diffrence, and they said no. So now she has to work at a supermarket as a cashier ( that's the only job that would hire her) to try and pay off her loans.

Also it pisses me off that they make it so you have to go back for continuing education, which can almost be as expensive as going to college again. ;_;

I got into the health care field and all certification and ceu's (continuing education units) I will have to go through is ridiculous. I mean if I want to get a decent job I am going to have to become a CMA (certified medical assisitant), and get my cert in phlebotomy. Those to cert's alone will cost me at least $200.00. And I know that dosn't sound like much, but it should have added into my tuition cost (which was $ 10,000.00).

Wow, I only have 2 more years of Highschool before I go to college. This thread kinda scares me, I don't want to be broke with no job when I get out... Oh well, most ppl have to go through it.

Don't worry, everyone goes through it at some point. And it's not like you can get ahead in the world without a college education.

Ugh, that's a bunch of bs. Of course a college education is a damn good thing to have but there are people whom are very successful and never went to college. Them making such a stereotype is just being ignorant XD

Its not so bad, just find a career field to aim for that your going to enjoy doing for the rest of your life.

I'm one of those people who have had to pay for all their college costs through loans, just 4 more years to go and I'll be able to get a job in the world. On the bad side, that 300 thousand that I'll be in the hole for in the end ought to take a while to pay off, but least I'll be happy doing what I'll be doing.

I want to shoot to be a coroner...I want to cut up dead ppl for a living!! I have to go to school for that, but recently I realized that I would have to go to school for a looong, loong time to be able to do that. Now I don't know if I want to do that..I don't want to have to pay for that much college.
