does s-video really make the picture better when watching dvd's?

the funny thing about gold plated cables is that the ends are the only part that is plated gold, the line running between the two is standard wire. if your tv is under 32 inches i wouldn't even bother, but you will see a difference on anything bigger. a friend of mine has a 52inch flat wide screen t.v. and without the high end cables it had a pretty poor picture.
