Wait, let me get this straight. In the anime (not the manga) all they changed were the characters names?
Why does this matter? It doesn't interfere with the original creator's message at all, unless they had some deeper allegorical meaning like Dicken's often did, but this would be lost on a non-japanese speaking audience anyway.
What am I missing?
Censoring the manga sucks, and if they did the same to the anime, that is most definitely unacceptable, but just changing the names... I don't see that as ruining anything.
