Golden Age of Anime

I totally agree with Morg that the older stuff has much better writing. Most of the newer stuff is all cosmetic. They keep trying to improve graphics and forget that the main ingredient is the storyline.

No I don't see that in things like cars. It's just that now not only do the makers, producers, writers, and what not get to tap the Japanese market but they now tap the american market. Hell I need to find that article... Bandai is looking to make an anime directed straight to the american otaku htey are going to bye pass japan completely...
tell me that isn't an oxymoron...

Ugg. Bandai making an anime for the US only. Can anyone say "crapfest"?

The thing that worries me about alot of new anime is that all the animation isn't done "in house". So that means alot of it is shipped to korea, and that worries me. Confusedweatdrop:

Yea can you say "Power Stone" & "Fatal Fury" those are both done for the american viewer... hell PS didn't even get a Japanese audio track at all. And 90% of all the animation was done in Korea... Yea some things are changing but as long as we voice are disapproval then they are bound to listen. Shoot the listened to us and now the second seasonof Bezerk is being made as we speak...

actually i think that the golden age started with astro boy and died with evangelion, as it was the last anime to be fully hand drawn (or so i read in new-type)

That really dosen't matter to me. As long as there is still anime to be seen.

I'm sorry what the old time anime had in story the new skool has to have character development. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Fushigi Yuugi... say what you will but I find it difficult to stomach the simplicity of the characters in say, DBZ... as much as I like it, it is so painfully simple. God you sound like my grandpa...

DBZ is not old school. And you can't count Cowboy Bebop, because it defies all the norms. Bebop is an exception. There are some newer anime that do have decent storylines, but the majority of them don't.

Anime has always had good and bad character development, it's just that today we get alot more of it so we see the garbage with the good stuff. For every show like Touch, Maison Ikkoku, and shows of that calibur, there are shows like Attack Number One, Billy Dog, or Hey Bumboo. There were hundreds of anime TV shows and movies in the 80s and I bet most of you haven't heard of 10% of them.

As for modern anime, I agree that for awhile plots have been rather thin, but honestly look at any media and look for an original idea. They are few and far between.

By the way, what character development was there in Trigun? CB and FY I agree with, but Trigun?

The central core of characters recieved good development... besides Vash, Milly and Wolfwood progressed nicely as characters... at least I thought so. I you think about it, what story was pushing the series foward? There really wasn't any... besides evading bounty hunters(until much later on) so what else could there have been?

Dragon Ball has beautifil character developement. You probably watched that atrocity that is called "Dragonball" in america. Which easily managed to ruin everything the original had.

kakoi_sugoi_yama, I have never said this to you before but I am saying it now.... Shut up Spike didn't die I refuse to listen to such talk from you of all people...

As for pchmura, well I can't speak for most people here except for say 10% of them... we would know most of the stories you name hell own a copy of the anime ecyclopedia... But anyways... say with the good comes the bad is a cop out...

Beebop devoplment... Hell if I recall Spike got a good jolt, Eva had here little side story, and Jet and his one episode of lost love. But ED got lost in the mix and Enn the dog hell we never got his complete story...

DB had great devoplment it's plots were great too... DBZ on the other hand made leaps in charcters getting stronger and coming into there own but the plots were so cut and dry it get's... well depressing
