Lets Save America - Ban Anime Now

To: George Bush
Here in America, we live in a climate of moral decay. What is the cause of this? It is called "anime". Anime is a perverse, evil, insiduous form of animation from the dark land of Japan, and is corrupting America's youth at unprecedented rates. Here are a few examples of anime which are circulating on the Internet and may very well be in your home:

1) Ah My Goddess: A sick and disgusting show which causes children under the age of 18 to think they are capable of love. The main female character is clearly under 18, and is forced into a romantic relationship by an older man who "wishes" for her to be his girlfriend forever. He even KISSES her, and she appears NAKED. That poor girl must be so confused.

2) Love Hina: I'm not even going to mention the unspeakable, disgusting, pedophilic, pornograhpic events which transpire during this show, but suffice it to say, groups of young men on Love Hina-fueled rampages are raping children at a level unheard of since the 60s.

If you are a parent or a decent human being, I urge you to sign this petition to ban all forms of anime in the United States. Anyone who is found in possesion of anime should be arrested and jailed for an exhorbant period of time. Anime is a dark scourge upon our beautiful nation, and we don't need this Japanese filth corrupting the hearts of the children.

As a resonsible Christian, I demand to see this garbage removed from our nation. Please sign this petition and send it to George Bush, your Congressman, and the makers/distributors of anime filth and depravity.

Do the right thing.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

To Stop the Ban on Anime

To: George Bush

Some people are signing against anime and are calling is to be a "perverse, evil, insiduous form of animation from the dark land of Japan, and is corrupting America's youth at unprecedented rates." Anime is NOT corrupting the youth of America, and since when has America become a country of Christians? Isn't there a SEPARATION of Church and State? Isn't this a ban on our Freedom of Speech? And Freedom of Press? What does anime have to do with brainwashing our youth?

i knoe most of you are against the fact that anime should be banned! fight with me and sign the pro-anime petition!
Those things never work anyways people can copy there names and make multiple signings nothing to worry about.
What a damn loser shows that some people have no life and their true purpose is trying to take away everyone elses fun. What a joke...
Why do people hate anime so much I mean its pretty much the same thing as any movie except its animated.
"The dark land of Japan"?!? These jokers can't be for real! Even us Australians aren't capable of that level of racism. And more than 50% of Australians are stuck in the 1950s.
And judging by the calibre of signatures, I think all the petition proves is that anime fans on the internet are numerous and vocal with the voice of dissent. And crude.
Personally, I think that's the dumbest petition I've ever seen in my life and it is nothing to worry about. First of all, it contains nothing but unfounded insults to a show that they've obviously never even watched before. They bring no points of argument, theories, studies, or facts to back up their statements. If it even is a real petition, it would never make it off the internet. Anyone who looked at that who is a serious person like a congressman or senator would laugh that out of the room.

"Anime is a dark scourge upon our beautiful nation?" Give me a break. No one writing a serious petition would put that down.
*laughs*
people come up with some funny petitions now a days. if there are people who really want to fight for whatever they want to believe, then i say let them go for it. but in this situtation i don't think it will go far.
*laughs*
lol He/she "it"? got the description wrong on Ah! My Goddess! eventhough Belldandy character was drawn to look younger she still looks like she's in her early 20's not in her teens and Keiich looks to be the same exact age as Belldandy. So no Keiich doens't look to be much older than Belldandy. :p
(Please read this without any political intention or thought because I doubt any of us are really trying to make a political statement in general here)

I remember that Anime News Network actually had an article that a Bush ad loosely had an anime pic (it looked very ghetto as if it were made in paint) that was based off of Nicholas D. Wolfwood from Trigun to make him look some kind of yakuza hitman. I'm guessing someone who made that ad really loves Japanese anime and yakuza movies. And I doubt he wants to waste time and it would be bad trade relations with Japan in the future considering they are a big economic partner.

Yeah that's a good point it would be pretty stupid to even try banning would be a waste of time and as you said would be bad for the economy. But more than anything else that pathetic attempt on the creators part is extremely funny.

Edit - There is no political view involved...
Yeah, besides cars and electronics, anime is a huge export for Japan right now and is a big help to their economy (I read this in the Wall Street Journal last year). Japan's economy let's just say is not as good as it was in the 1980s but still stabilized to say the least. Japan also has that one-sided trading policy of they export and don't import (though that isn't always necessarily true due to certain tariffs), and banning an impacting product like anime would do nothing more than hurt trade relations. On top of that, the banning of anime trades could result to Japan firing back by banning having Nintendo and other video game companies to limit video games to the U.S.

OK, I'm sounding a little paranoid, but this is a best scenario I can come up with of what could happen if anime were ceased to be imported to the U.S. Even if that did happen, we'd still get Hong Kong DVDs.
Yeah this would never work. There are too many companies here that are huge and if they tried to Ban anime they would sue like no tomorrow. They would win and the government would have to pay millions and it would be a big mess for nothing but giving anime more coverage when in return get it even more popular and then more anime titles flood the US.

I went ahead and signed it just for the hell of it.
Anyone think it's funny that the email address for the author of the anit-anime petition is neko[email protected]. Could just be a coincidence but thats a very anime geek name.
On a more important note, all this political activism prompted me to start my own petition. If it gets approved I will post a link, if not I'll just post the draft.

~EDIT~
Cool, I am now the proud owner of a brand new petition... my god this is a boring Friday night.

To: U.S. Congress
Over the last twenty(20) years I have had a great deal of petitions pass under my nose, begging for my Herbie Hancock. While a select few of the afore mentioned petitions were worthy of the approveing kiss of my quill (hearafter referred to as "my signature"), most of them were absolute trash. I hearby propose a ban on such trite and useless drivel, before anymore time is wasted on such frivolous matters. It is imperative that one of you guys(preferably an overly conservative Republican) draft a bill as soon as possible, and that it be placed into effect immediately. This is a national crisis truly worthy of "Terror-Alert Red" and it must be stopped before our nation's Legislative Branch is burried under pointless paperwork. There is no time for cute song and dance numbers, this can not remain only a bill.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
