live action movie recommendations - Batz Kage - 06-27-2003 Empire Records! (If it hasn't alreay been suggested) You probably wouldn't like it. It's apointless movie, but very entertaining, or to me atleast. live action movie recommendations - Ka-Talliya - 06-28-2003 I second Empire Records! I'm also adding... The GOONIES!! live action movie recommendations - Prophet Hero - 06-28-2003 Hmmm, I'll try and stick to the flavour of the films you've already posted. Insomnia - dir Chris Nolan (Memento), Robin Williams in serious role Chinatown, About Schmidt, The Pledge, The Shining - Nicholson Time Bandits, Life of Brian, Holy Grail, Jabberwocky - dir Terry Gilliam Godfather 1&2 - Coppola LA Confidential, Glengarry Glen Ross, American Beauty - Spacey Dr Strangelove - Kubrick Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, King of Comedy, Casino - Scorsese Traffic, Out of Sight - Soderbergh Ferris Bueller - the last decent film John Hughes (Breakfast Club) directed Election - not as sentimental like Breakfast Club, but wickedly sharp and funny. Zero Effect - first time effort from Jake Kasdan. live action movie recommendations - OptimisticOx - 06-28-2003 Thanks PH, I actually have a list going now. I wasnt sure how good of the some of the stuff was going to be like raging bull but now that you have recomended it I have more confidence. Ive actually seen most of the ones you recomended or I planned on watching them but thanks anyway. yeah, john hudges has done alot of crap and I have already seen ferris beuller I have requeum of a dream waiting for me right now and I am planning to rent Clearks godfather 1 & 2 raging bull and a few others I cant remember. live action movie recommendations - Shibo - 06-28-2003 Let me second Monty Python and the Holy Grail..Hmm. What Else. Seven Samurai and Rashoman by Kurosawa..Cube is a very strange and cool sci-fi film. How bout some kung fu goodness? Check out Seven Deadly Venoms or Crippled Avengers. If your video store is good it might have M. It's a classic Fritz Lieber film. Hmm, what else.. I always liked The Usual Suspects. And, of course, Casablanca, but I hope you've seen that already. If your foreign film section is good and actually has some Kurosawa stuff, maybe they'll have a couple other obscure Japanese titles.. If so, check out Tampopo. Ramen Shop comedy. Good stuff. =) live action movie recommendations - Lonely_monkey21 - 06-28-2003 I agree on Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Little Shop of Horrors is also really good. I also second, and third the Goonies, and Empire Records. live action movie recommendations - Batz Kage - 06-29-2003 As for Shibo suggestion of Cube, I've never seen it, but if it's what I think it is, I've seen Cube2, which was ok. I mean it's got a great plot twist, it's not really scary or anything but it will keep you entertained. live action movie recommendations - OptimisticOx - 06-29-2003 I actually havnt seen casa blanka, ill have to get that too. I thought about reading the book once though. thanks for the suggestions shibo but im not really looking for hong kong films. just the good ol american stuff. I just watched requiem for a dream yesterday. I recomend that everyone see it. it gives you a whole lot of perspective on things. even better than pi. live action movie recommendations - Prophet Hero - 06-29-2003 Casablanca is great, but I'll add that if you want to see Bogart at his best also consider seeing The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep. The latter might be a bit confusing at first, but the dialogue crackles and the chemistry between Bogart and Bacall is unrivalled. If you're serious about film Ox, please don't ignore Shibo's suggestions and focus solely of "good ol American" stuff. There's so much good stuff out there! You can't go wrong with the majority of Kurosawa's stuff. Want to see someone cooler than Clint in Fistfull of Dollars? Toshiro Mifune in Yojimbo. Want to see where Lucas got some his ideas for Star Wars? Check out The Hidden Fortress. As for Seven Samurai? Majestic. And Shibo? Tampopo is a gem, isn't it? live action movie recommendations - Shibo - 06-29-2003 Yes it is, one of my favorites. I really do need to pick it up on DVD. I like american films as much as the next guy but there's lots of cool stuff out there internationally. I saw Red Firecracker, Green Firecracker recently. I'm a sucker for romance and my fondness for pretty japanese/chinese/vietnamese women is no great secret so I really enjoyed that one. live action movie recommendations - sanosuke - 06-30-2003 monty python rocks and speaking of terry gilliam check out "fear and loathing in las vegas" its a great movie! probably one of the best ive ever seen. live action movie recommendations - kakoi_sugoi_yama - 07-01-2003 I can't believe that I forgot to add Goonies on my list! See "About Schmidt" it is an instant classic. live action movie recommendations - matthewmalay - 07-01-2003 Well since everyone is praising Monty Python, I would recommend Meaning of Life. My favorite Monty Python movie live action movie recommendations - Steve_the_Talking_Pie - 07-01-2003 Cube is bizarre. Like Nike, Just do it!!!! |
