I converted my Apex 1500 player to region free and was wondering if it'll play PAL formatted dvds now. Has anyone tried yet?
im sorry i havent and im not sure how you converted.. but if it does work.. then Good Job Tongue
How did you convert it to? Will it work for my Pioneer DV-333 because I would like to pic up some R2 box sets of things like Maison Ikkoku.
Well steve it don't look like there are any..
here is two urls with a good database about dvd players
http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DV...it2=Search

http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdhacks.php?dvdp...rch=Search
vcdhelp is the site I used also. It'll give a list of players that can be converted. Try searching for your model. If not, go get the Apex 1500. They're really cheap and will play ANY dvds. I got mine at CompUSA on sale for only $60. The conversion can be found on www.vcdhelp.com

BTW, if you do get the Apex, make sure the serial number starts with A, B, C, D, E not SV. Only those can be converted.
Steve, I checked vcdhelp and din't see a hack listed for your Pioneer DV-333... so I'm not sure if it could be converted.

Thanks anyways. I'll make due with what I got. If I buy a DVD burner how much do dvd-rs cost? Can I actually use it to burn DVDs from say Block Buster?!?
Hmm. I'm not sure if you could burn those discs. Im sure they have some sort of copy protection. I hear that burning HKDVD works. Dvd-rs can go as low as $4 for low quality ones or $12-$15 for those really good stuff. It's probably not gonna be worth it burning HKDVD for those prices.
Thanks for the input.
For those that are daring: WHOEVER OWNS a APEX, SHINCO, or any of the CLONE dvd players, you can flash and customize the firmware so that the BACKGROUND as a "WALLPAPER" of your choice. You can modify the SCREENSAVER as well. I've done it twice, killing 1 machine, but succeeding with the other. DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!, BUT THE CUSTOMIZATION IS WORTH IT. Instead of the manufacturers background, I have a KENSHIN BACKGROUND whenever I turn on my dvdplayer. TOTALLY PIMP STUFF:

You would have to use a program like DeCSS to get rid of the CSS encryption on the dvd which you would have to save to your harddrive.. Then your other problem you will run into is generally Commercial dvd's are larger then 4.7 gb which is the largest you can buy.. So you would have to fiddle around change / alter the dvd and make 2 dvd's outta 1.. there are some programs that can mostly do this.. if you want guides i can show yea..
