Full Version: AV laziness??

I was just looking around ebay, and I saw something interesting. It seems AV has somehow stopped using gatefolds and now are beginning to print their titles in the clear dvd cases (sort of like with the fx real bout highschool, mahoromatic second season boxset, and someday's dreamers. I think they look really nice and stuff and I would love to own one for myself. They have the dnangel boxset in hk that AV printed and the box looks so COOL!..... but unfortunately, I am collecting the r1s of dnangel at the moment. But I think I might buy a set for myself, just because of the cool packaging ^.^ Here are some pictures of the sets that have been reprinted in the plastic dvd case rather than the gatefolds.

In my opinion, (i hope i don't get flamed for this), but I like the packaging of these sets better than the gatefolds because I don't have to deal with the slip cases, broken hubs, disks falling out, falling disk holders, etc. I would love to own the Inuyasha, hunter X hunter, DC, wolf's rain, .hack, and saiyuki dvd sets. Plus I also think they save a little bit of space. What do you guys think about this?
FX has been doing this to a certain degree ( if we ever see them again ) my haibane remnei is like this with a center swing disc holder- i like it better than the plasticl coated paper with the crummy centers that break and the clear plastic cover that slips over the whole thing- by the way, how is the wolfs rain set from AV ?
I think the AV set is an MI rip, so you should try looking in the review section for wolf's rain MI.
Yeh I like these better. Smaller and more durable. Especially two disc versions. 2 disc gatefolds were CRAP! Looked crap and felt crap. 3 disc gatefolds are ok but I guess I would prefer these...
PLus with these, you don't have to worry about shelfwear or anyway damage to the paper part of the gatefold covered by the slip case. Also, it would save alots of space ^.^ which is something that will need right now. Yes I have to agree, two disk gatefolds are really crappy, but the kind that fx makes (for example Hellsing and Fushigi Yugi OVA) they have the two additional flaps inside that show additional artwork, where as in MAC and MI, when you open the two disk gatefolds, you just see the disks and nothing else. I think FX does the best job on 2 disk gatefold cases IMO anyway.

FXs had ones where the discs were facing each other without the extra flaps. The two I know of are Black Jack and .Hack Twilight...
those new gatfolds are really gay...
I got my 22 disc Ranma 1/2 in the form of just plastic sleeves in a plastic VHS holder. However it did have a fold for the holder to go into. If anything this lowers the amount of weight in a set.

What manufacturer? That's very like mainland china rips to do that. They come in a box with loose discs in sleeves... I have some of US tv shows.
Some MI sets had this long ago. Some even have an extra sleeve case for the amaray to slip into.
i like the gatefolds

i have never had much trouble with cd's falling out except in shipping but ussually i get them in seperate cd cases and then the box comes empty and wrapped which is nice.

i agree it saves space but i just like the extra art work but if i could get a slim case with a art booklet like cd lyric size i would be pretty cool with that too cus the save in space is a really nice thing.
