Here this is what you should do:
Get Virtualdub and play around with the resize filter like in the image below... See you can add black borders then reencode to xvid or something... More space saving than mpeg2 dvd-rs
Are you sure there's not a setting in the player that controls screen output though?
Ok, this program isn't even loading the naruto eps. When I loaded an initial d ep it said it had to do something to the audio. Here's what it says about Naruto.
Couldn't locate decompressor for format "div3" Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion]
Virtualdub requires a video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

That's so messed up. Only like the first 8 eps I have in the folder don't work. The rest work, and that audio not encoded correctly thing comes up randomly from time to time. This program is nuts.
Whoa! I just tried to "Save as AVI" on one of the files. The file size jumped to 5 GB!! after only a few minutes into the episode and quit saving as my computer had no more space... what the hell! lol
Is that what i'm supposed to do after I add the filter?
I had the same problem when i converted fansubs to dvd format to watch on tv.
Some of those fangled divx players have settings to compensate, so do some tvs.
Basically i think you need to convert it again adding borders to compensate for the overscan. It took a lot of attempts before i got it right. Now i just watch on my pc - i just don't have the time to do it. It saved me alot of grief.

Under video output there's the option for S-VIDEO and YPbPr
Under TV Display there is 4:3 PS 4:3 LB and 16:9. Changing to the different ones seems to make no difference. I woulda thought changing to 16:9 wooulda changed the screen size, but I guess not. I really don't understand tv's/dvd players and crap lol.

Well first of all demux the audio as we dont need to change it then remux it to the new video... Secondly DIV3 is old and not very good so thats why the newer ones will work and lastly you need to use the xvid codec to compress them again. The 5GB file was uncompressed
If you wouldn't mind would you be willling to explain what I need to do to from after I load a video to the finished product? I really don't know what i'm doing when it comes to this kinda stuff.

You do if you're renting DVD's since I hardly think he's just going to be able to download any movie he wants to watch from the internet. As for the subtitles, that's what this thread is about... there isn't much you can do to change the placement of the subtitles on fansubs, regardless of how it is re-encoded to DVDR's... I know, we've tried everything... but for the most part fansubs now aren't as bad about it as earlier ones because they are using newer encoding methods. But then they are fansubs, so I guess we really shouldn't be bitching about them to begin with... and if we want perfect subtitles, we should buy the R1's!!
There are no R1's for what i'm watching. Except for a few episodes of full metal alchemist. Bleach and macross zero havn't even been licensed. Unless someone owns the rights to all macross stuff. Heard they're having problems figuring out who owns the license to macross stuff. I really really really don't understand how companies get confused on who owns to rights to something. We havn't seen a reboot dvd release because of this. =/ Did you pay the japanese company for the rights to the show? Then you own the damn rights!! What's so confusing about that?

I haven't downloaded a single DivX or XVid movie that hasn't fit to a cd. Even if the file size is larger than the capacity of an 80min cd, it will fit (they make them just the right size to fit on a cd, and will usually split the movie into 2 files if it won't fit on one cd... unless it's a real amateur doing it). Just make sure you're using something like Nero that can do a little over-burning, and finalize after writing. I've had lots of movies that I've panicked about 'cause I -never- thought would fit on a cd, and they burnt fine.

Ok i'll try. Open the file then go to streams then stream list or whatever it is on your version. Click on the audio and choose direct stream copy. That should just copy the audio to the new file we will make... Then go to video, then filters and then open the resize filter... Set it do how I have done in the attached pic. That has a border that should be enough but feel free to add more but work out the dimentions so that they are still 4:3. Next go to video, compression then go down the list to xvid (if you dont have it get it, especially latest version as its easyer to use). Follow the instructions for xvid from this site -
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/xvid.html just copy all their settings into the new version of xvid and then follow their guide to two pass encoding. That should be it, it looks hard at first but once you've done one the settings dont change so the others will seem simple! Try it and ill help you if you get stuck. That site helped me ALOT though so check them out.

Then your options are limited to either watching them on a computer, or hooking a computer up to your TV, or dealing with the hard to read subtitles... or trying to re-encode them... As for Reboot... ADV holds the license for season 3 & 4... they do
not hold the license for the first 2 seasons, and the company that does, (which I don't remember who it was because it was one I'd never heard of before) isn't willing to release it onto DVD's or to let go of the license... this is straight from an ADV employee I talked to on the phone specifically about Reboot along with if they were going to release the 2nd & 3rd disks of Season 3 which was a no at that time too, so you can take the information or leave it. Although, like I did say in another thread, Right Stuf has the first disk of Reboot season 3 listed as coming out the end of this month... so I have hopes that the 2nd and 3rd disk will likely follow from ADV as well...
