I currently have a Sony DRU model (its older only 4x max) and i have loved it so far. Haven't had any problems with it burning and probably had it about year and 1/2.. And trust me i have burnt alot of dvd disc's with it. Went through few 100 stacks of dvd's. and what a slap in the face.. When i got mine it was $300 and now these with DL are like $90.
So it's thumps up from you. :p

From what it looks like I'll probably going to buy. Just wondering what is "Coaster" that I keep reading about on newegg.com I'm guessing it means no um error disc... right??

Okay I set to buy the Sony DVD/CD burner but then I saw this.

Well it it looks better because the DVD-R is 16X DVD-R while the Sony only goes up to 8X plus it only cost two dollars more. Is I/O Magic Black reliable? Or should I go with Sony even though the DVD- (minus) R is slower.

But the Sony model CD-R is 48X while the I/O Magic Black is 40X.

btw what's the difference between DVD+ and DVD- which one would you recommend me to burn with?
If you buy one go with Plextor, Sony or Memorex. I just got a memorex for xams and its sweet.

Supposedly you have less compatibility problems with the DVD+ in regards to play back in most DVD players because it is more like the standard for pressed DVD's, or some such reason.... Some DVD players have better luck reading one or the other... whereas most will read either one... and that also varies by the DVD Manufacturer as well... For example I know someone who can't read Ridata or Green Value DVD+R, but can read Fuji or Khypermedia ones on a Toshiba SD 1800 player, also have another one who can't read the Green Value, TDK's, or the Ridata's DVD+R's... I think it also has to do with what brand the DVD player is... and/or if the DVDR was written out too fast to properly record all the important ending/beginning data...

Course if you want the obvious difference between the two... laugh... DVD+R's cost more than the DVD-R's...
I only got a DVD-R recorder with my comp. Anyways make sure you get a recorder that works with both + and - media. If you wanna check what media will work with your DVD player check out http://www.dvdrhelp.com
Well my DVD player is able to Play most medias Dvd R + and- , DVDRW +and- VCD's, SVCDs. My DVD player is a JVC XV-N55. The only reason I bought that DVD player is because it plays all burn DVD medias and CD medias.

And what brand is this?

It says I/O are they reliable or should I just go with the Sony.
Personally, I would go with the Sony because I dont really trust brands I have never heard of. You might also want to look around on the internet for some reviews of the different burners, that usually helps my choice.
I would go with Sony also.. I don't like going with brands that are kinda no named..
