Hi everybody! I just finished the manga for Marmalade Boy and I was wondering if anybody could recommend something along the same lines. I've looked at Paradise Kiss, which looks pretty cool, but they only had book 1 at the store and I didn't want to get too involved with something I'd never run across again (don't you hate that?)
Anyway, thanks in advance,
-K
Don't know anything about Marmalade Boy but these are some seriously good manga...
Berserk...If you thought the Anime Rocked wait till you read this!!!
Blade of the Immortal....Man is this Awsome
Akira....Holy Crap!!! This is AMAZING!!!
Nadesico...Very fun
Lone Wolf and Cub...I only have the 1st book but it is GREAT
I guess this is enough of a list, I hope you check some of them out..or all of 'em!
Don't forget Nausicaa.
If you thought the movie was great, it was but only a small microcosm of the awesomeness that is the manga...

Nausicaa is a classic
It seems you're into Shoujo manga
Only read the 1st volume of Kare Kano but its great.
Read the first four volumes of Fruits Basket, awesome just like the anime, I think TokyoPOP is gonna release it on 2004. I've been reading the french version.
Hmmm, if you do only like shoujo manga and liked Marmalade Boy, I think you might like Kodomo no Omocha. It's very similar to Marmalade Boy and even though I haven't read it myself, the anime is GREAT and certainly worth checking out.
I didn't like Nausicaa at all. Though I can't reccomend Kodocha enough, it's on my top 2 list without a doubt.
A hugely popular title is X-day, which is only 2 volumes long and released by Tokyopop. Everyone I know (plus everyone at AnimeonDVD) really really enjoyed it, and it's no wonder why.... it was VERY good.
Last, Kindaichi. Murder mysteries are everywhere, but never carried out well. Kindaichi takes them to the next level, and is definantly worthy of you check out one volume! (each manga volume is one complete case, so you can buy out of order, but you should start from volume 1 : The Opera House Murders)
Well, I'm not restricted to shoujo manga, I've got some GTO, Inuyasha and the Cowboy Bebop Shooting Star but I must say, the anime plays a lot better. I had just about given up on manga when I read Marmalade Boy and got all caught up in the plot.
I've read volume one of Akira (that was pretty crazy) and liked it better than the movie, so I probably should hunt the rest of those down. Thanks for the rest of the suggestions, I'll definitely check them out!

hi, the best manga in my opinion is kajika, its only a one shot but its still the best. i think you should really have a look at this one. In a way its like Key: the metal idol, whihc i also think is really good, they both have to get/save a certain amount of people to return to their formor state.
Ok, my seconbd attempt to write this:
Viz just lienced Bleach if you're looking for legal text format.
If you haven't heard about it I believe it's done by Kubotite (the same guy who did Zombie Powder).
It follows the life of a kid who was saved by a Shinagami, but while she was healing him he took to much of her power, & is now forced (or not really) to take her place, while she takes place on earth as a human.
Quite interesting, if you haven't heard of it & think you might buy it, I can try to send you a scanulation of the first chapter.
My all time favourite manga is Sanctuary. Unfortunately both the live action movie and the anime based on the manga are utter crap. If you want a real treat set in the modern days that has action romance and the strength of friendship then I highly recommend Sanctuary.
I also have the complete run of Lone Wolf and Cub which is worth reading but you have to have at least a small interest in historical Japan to fully appreciate it.
The manga of Akira is much richer than the movie. There is a major diversion in the story between the two as well. The movie was more inspired by the manga than based on it (if you want to make that disinction).
Mai the Psychic Girl is another classic that should be on everyones must read list. I know that Tim Burton bought the movie rights to it over a decade ago but I'm not sure what's happening with it these days.
Nausicaa is one of my favourite movies and I didn't think it was possible for the manga to be better. But it is. The manga has more religious overtones and spends more time developing everything. Best of all, it's both written and illustrated by Miyazaki himself (someone please correct me on this if my memory is wrong).
I should write about other great titles when I'm not supposed to be working...
If Nausicaa is that good, I think i'll look into it. IT it liscensed?
