My comments were never directed towards Zagatto. This is my opinion on a genre of animation that I find is a complete waste of time. You don't like the word cartoon? That's what a billion other people on this world will call 'em. Saying "Anime" is a way of legitimizing this particular form of animation you're an obvious fan of. I'm a fan too. Hentai, again in my opinion, takes away from any legitimization as an art form Anime has gained over the years. What it does succeed in doing is enforce the stereotype of "Magic the gathering" card playing nerds who never leave home and masturbate to "cartoons". While it may not be true, that's the catch with stereotypes.

Well, after reading all of your fine comments and opinions I must say that I agree with Mr. Nuts. Hentai is a form of animation that relies on a heavy content of fantasy that most people enjoy in reality. In other words, instead of watching a sexual act, try actually talking to a live person and establishing a normal relationship with that person. Take the same energy you put into watching and loving these celluloid characters and invest it in someone special. Please don?t get me wrong, I enjoy ?Japanimation? as much as the next person, but I know when to separate myself from the fantasy. Second, we had this discussion a while ago, Cartoon and anime are synonymous, considering there is plenty of anime directed towards both adults and children in Japan, just like there are cartoons here directed towards both adults and children here in the states.

Wow... this is another thread that has taken off in great leaps and bounds. I see lots of opinions flying around that could be construed as flames or flame bait.
Before I go any further, I'm going to clarify a few words that I use and the context that I use them in.
1) Porn: any media that uses sexual content in a way that could be construed as arousing. This could be the classic movie Behind the Green Door, this could be an issue of Giant Jugs, this could be internet photos, this could be animated, or it could be written words. Porn is a very broad term.
2) Cartoon: This is a broad term I use for any animated work. Popular subcategories include Disney movies, anime, and shorts that are usually shown at animation festivals. Heck, a good argument could be made for a little flip book as a cartoon but I'm not going into that any further.
3) Hentai: This is a more focused category but still has several distinct subcategories and trends. I'll use the term hentai to describe any cartoon from Japan (or done in a Japanese style) that is intended to show sexual situations. There are a number of these that have been imported that show demon tentacle sex. Because this is so far from what people in North America is used to, they stand out in peoples memory even though there are other styles. There are some stories that focus on bondage, homosexual love, and even good old school girl crushes on their teachers. As a whole, the tentacle sex phenomenon makes up a minority of the hentai that I've seen.
Now that I've cleared up definitions, I'm going to write another post with my opinions.

The biggest thing I find erotic in any form of porn is the story and the situation of the sex. To be honest, seeing close ups of a womans privates does nothing for me. I've seen lots of naked women in real life and photographs of the parts just don't do anything for me.
Which brings me to the reason I don't care for most live action porn that I've seen. The vast majority of it seems to be devoid of any plot whatsoever and ends up a game of how many different positions can we get into before the money shot? There are a few notable exceptions to this but they are rare.
With a lot of the hentai out there, a good amount of attention is paid to the story. The fact that I'm more likely to find a story that arrouses me in an animated video as apposed to a live action video has me buying more hentai than hollywood. I don't care if the naughty bits are pixellated out or not. What I care about is the actions leading up to the sex act and how well executed it is.
There are a lot of reasons to indulge in porn other than to familiarize yourself with anatomy. As soon as the live action industry shows itself to be producing videos with more content, I will be more likely to check them out.
If you want to see some hentai without any tentacles and some hot and steamy scenes to go along with your story then look at some of the following DVDs:
Adventure Kid (I love the scene with the piano teacher)
Cool Devices (this collects a bunch of different stories into one neat volume... best of all... no tentacles)
Sprite Between Worlds (very little sex but a hot story)
there's that island one that I can't remember the title of but that also has some very strong scenes without any tentacles.
If you don't like something you've seen, please don't use that to base your opinion on a wider field.

The main poblem here is that most of the points you try to make go nowhere or make no sense, much like the one above. Again, because you seem to not get it, i was never responding to Zagatto. I never even bothered to read his post. It was enough seeing the title "Adventure Kid" in there (flashbacks of horrid animation). that there is no best or even good hentai.
1. The animation, by and large, is garbage.
2. The stories aren't worth bringing up, anymore than they are in "live" porno.

These are the reasons for my opinions. You say you don't agree because i'm wrong. I'm not wrong -you simply don't agree. You say these make alot of money. I believe that. It still doesn't make them any good. You say alot of anime companies are helped out by there good sales. I sincerely doubt that. The only people they help are the Yakuza who privately fund them. No different from the Triads that probably fund the makers of all the HK Anime DVDs we all own.
You also stated that I flip-flopped in my opinion by saying watching anime is a bit nerdy, but later calling myself a fan. The fact that i'm 30 years old and still watching GRANDIZER is "nerdy". The fact that i'll never stop watching is what makes me a fan. No flip-flop. I see it for what it is.
Everyone has expressed there point. Some people enjoy it. Some don't. I'm not anti-porn, I just find Hentai a complete waste of time & effort (and yes, so is phone sex).

Mezzo Forte has some kick ass action, as did KITE before it, but unlike KITE, the story in Mezzo Forte, beyond the basic kidnap/revenge scheme, made no sense at all, and the action/rape scene in the first half had nothing to do with the story and the sex scene in the second didnt advance the story either, if this your example of the best in hentai than we do have a problem.

I have seen Mezzo Forte and must say it was quite awsome!!! If it didn't have the sex scenes in it..it would still be enjoyable to watch. The sex in it did actually move the story, Disturbingly so, but it was so well made that if the sex in it were to be edited out, it would still be a well written and developed show. So I have to say for a hentai, Mezzo Forte can also be called a great anime!
